Young people in management

As a service for young people, Get Connected is guided by what young people tell us about their needs, their opinions and their views on how the service should develop. So that we could consult young people on a regular basis, we asked young people across the UK what format they thought a consultation should have. That was how we came up with the Young People In Management Project.

The Youth Committee

The Youth Committee is a group of approximately 14 young people aged 11-18 from London secondary schools. They meet every couple of months to discuss issues such as the extent of Get Connected's confidentiality policy, ways to advertise the service and, of course, the design of Get Connected's new brand. The Youth Committee agrees its own code of conduct and contributes ideas on how to structure future meetings. Meetings usually take the form of workshops and discussion groups and feedback from these is presented to Get Connected's management committee.

The Youth Annual General Meeting

This meeting gathers young people of all backgrounds and ages from all over the UK at one big meeting. Ideas suggested by the Youth Committee are debated and plans for improvements and developments to the helpline are discussed. Conclusions made by the young people at the Youth AGM inform Get Connected's strategy and operations for the forthcoming year and a video of the event is shown at Get Connected's main AGM later that year.

Support for the Young People in Management Project

The Project so far has been kindly funded by Comic Relief. This enables Get Connected to pay for expenses such as travel, accommodation and workshop materials for the project.
